Colburn Community Primary School Vision

Our new vision statement was rewritten at the start of the academic year 2017-2018 with the help of the school community. It reflects our overarching aims, ethos and values and recognises our drive to achieve ‘outstanding’.

The School’s Vision

At Colburn Community Primary School, we are determined to develop outstanding teaching and learning through having the highest expectations and aspirations for our pupils. A high standard of teaching, meaningful quality experiences and state of the art facilities provides challenge for all pupils to strive for academic, creative, sporting and personal success within a broad, exciting and enriched curriculum.

There is a clarity and agreement of what is meant by high standards and high expectations so that all members of staff are relentless to ensure that all pupils achieve their potential. Pupils are given the time and opportunity to explore a wide range of subjects and develop a deep understanding, which enables them to move their learning forward. We strive to promote perseverance, resilience and risk taking, encouraging pupils to take ownership of and responsibility for their learning so they have the confidence and curiosity to ask questions, solve problems and respond to feedback positively. All pupils are praised for hard work, determination and for maintaining a positive attitude even when they are faced with challenges.

Securing exceptional teaching is a key priority at Colburn Community Primary School and the relationship between staff and pupils underpins inspirational, supportive and effective teaching and learning. In order to create an environment in which everyone makes substantial and sustained progress and fulfils their potential, we promote an ethos of respect and empathy, where diversity is valued and celebrated – both within the school and the wider community. Safeguarding and welfare is a priority and pupils are taught the importance of mutual respect and tolerance. This ensures that pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, including the promotion of British values, is at the heart of the school’s work.

Our vision for the school is to achieve recognition as ‘Outstanding’ because we have dedicated, creative, forward-thinking staff who take pride in their capacity to recognise and respond to the learning and personal development needs of every child. Staff are actively involved in identifying their support and training requirements and this leads to careers with clear progression. We ensure that there is a wide range of quality training available and that staff are able to learn from each other and share good practice. Through their leadership of different aspects of the curriculum all teachers play an active role in securing the highest standards of teaching and learning.

We strive to instil a lifelong love of learning with a strong grounding for future success; it is our aim for all children to move on to secondary school as independent, confident learners who are equipped to achieve not only examination success but happiness, health, economic well-being and fulfilment in adult life. Whatever their ability, social background or educational standard, Colburn CP School endeavours to give all children the chance to excel.
